Jack Quaid is set to star in the upcoming DC animated series My Adventures With Superman. To prepare for his role, he studied up on one of the greatest Superman stories ever.
Speaking to Collider, Quaid revealed that in order to get some inspiration for his upcoming role, he did some research on the iconic superhero.
“[…] All-Star Superman was a big inspiration,” said Quaid. “I think with that one you really do get to see how absolutely genuine that character is. Superman For All Seasons does a similar thing. Those were two really big inspirations for my rendition of Superman.”
Quaid focused in on Clark’s genuine nature as a particular point of inspiration.
“What I liked about this version was he’s Clark first, you know,” he said. “Clark isn’t a persona he puts on in order to be more appealing or to have people underestimate him. Like that’s who he is deep down, and he’s still figuring out who he is as Superman, all the while juggling being an intern at a newspaper. He very much wants to be a reporter as well, which I think is so cool.”
All-Star Superman is often heralded as one of the greatest Superman stories ever told, and focuses on a Superman who is dying due to overexposure to the Sun. The series is set to be one of the inspirations for James Gunn’s upcoming film Superman: Legacy.
While he did draw inspiration from various comic runs, Quaid also put plenty of his own personality into the character.
“But yeah, I definitely did imbue it with my own personality,” Quaid said. “You know, I’ve also been a person in my twenties trying to figure out who I am and where I fit in. I think that getting to kind of harken back to those days in this character has been therapeutic and very fun. Very, very cool.”
