Samba de Amigo finally makes its grand return this August with Samba de Amigo: Party Central, a new edition of Sega’s beloved rhythm game that sees the series branch out into a wider variety of music. So far, Party Central has been sold so far with clips of wild, colorful parties that you get to have your customized character play in. But what if you could somehow be even more immersed in these parties, as you shake your maracas around wildly? Well, that’s where virtual reality comes in, as it was revealed during today’s Meta Quest Gaming Showcase that Sega would be bringing Samba de Amigo to the Quest 2 and Quest Pro this year as well.
Considering the Quest’s use of motion controls via a pair of handheld controllers, bringing the series to a VR platform such as this actually seems like a no-brainer. Oddly, despite clearly having the same style and what appears to be the same forty-song setlist (featuring the likes of Rina Sawayama, Galantis, Carly Rae Jepsen, and more, with post-launch DLC to come later), this isn’t being billed as a port or a different version of Samba de Amigo: Party Central, instead just going by the lone title of Samba de Amigo (meaning Party Central gets to technically stay Switch-exclusive for now, it appears).
This VR version of Samba de Amigo still clearly aims to bring the same level of fun as its Switch counterpart, though, boasting a variety of mini-games, challenges, a World Party mode where you can play with up to seven other players, and leaderboards, in case you want to show those players who’s the top rhythm champ. And yes, there are a ton of various costumes and accessories for your character that you can unlock as well, though it looks like this version won’t be getting the same
