Earlier this month it was announced that Double Dragon is getting yet another reboot with Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons and it seems like it will be available in the not too distant future. Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons has been given the release date of July 27 when Bimmy Billy and Jimmy Lee along with myriad other playable characters will be busting heads on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons revives the iconic franchise but isn’t afraid to shake things up. The beat ’em up mayhem that’s kept the series going strong since 1987 will no doubt return but the emphasis is now on tag-team brawling with some new roguelite elements. The classic aesthetic is preserved through refreshed pixel art visuals that puts a more cartoonish spin on the familiar heroes and villains. The game will include unlockable bonuses, adjustable difficulty, infinite mode and an optional permadeath for the hardcore players. Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons strives to revitalize the series’ side scrolling action. Two player local co-op will have players seeing double when four characters will be tagging in and out of the fights in the mean streets of New York in 199X. Online co-op is scheduled as a post-launch update later in the year.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons is set after nuclear war has demolished the city that never sleeps which has since been overrun by terrible gangs. The Lee brothers won’t be cleaning up the streets along as there are 13 playable characters.
