Issues with the console version of Final Fantasy 16 have been linked to PlayStation 5’s latest system update.
Following the release of the PS5 update last week, Final Fantasy 16 players have reported encountering a number of problems including crashes and graphical glitches.
Square Enix has now acknowledged these issues, and confirmed that it’s investigating the matter with Sony.
“Following the recent release of the PlayStation 5 system update, there have been reports of the game crashing and graphical issues,” it said in a post on the game’s X account.
“We are currently working with SIE to investigate, and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.
“Please await our further updates.”
Final Fantasy 16 was released for PS5 in June 2023 and sales failed to meet Square Enix’s expectations.
A PC version was released on Tuesday, and the game’s director has said he thinks it’s likely that future series entries will be released for PC and console simultaneously.
The latest PS5 system update added the new Welcome Hub and Party Share, among other new features.
A reimagined version of the Explore tab, Welcome Hub is a new personalised space with customisable widgets and backgrounds on PS5’s home screen, while Party Share allows users to share party voice chat links over messenger apps.
