Blasphemous 2 studio The Game Kitchen has announced its next title, The Stone of Madness, will be one of the first games to release in 2025, with a confirmed 28th January launch date on PS5. A tactical stealth experience similar to Shadow Gambit and Desperados 3, a playable demo is available on PC now thanks to Steam Next Fest. You can also catch the latest trailer above.
Set in the year 1799 in a Spanish monastery, you play as five different prisoners who must come together and rely on one another to escape. You'll need to manage each one's mental health as they encounter their traumas and phobias throughout the religious prison, as you work towards one of two different escape plans.
«These plans will play out through a day and night cycle separating daytime actions and nighttime preparations, giving the prisoners time to rest and recover,» a press release adds. «Most actions will be best performed during daytime, even with the Inquisition’s presence, however the darkness of night offers unique opportunities, and risks. There is a reason most inmates rarely venture out after dark.» The stylised visuals draw on inspiration from 18th-century artist Fransicso De Goya.
Later this month, just before The Stone of Madness, team The Game Kitchen returns to Blasphemous 2 with the paid Mea Culpa DLC as well as a free update for all players. Given its track record, The Stone of Madness could be just as well supported with content after the January 2025 release. There's very little of note slated for the first month of next year at the time of writing, so the game may be worth pencilling in if you want something to play for 2025.
