“From his apartment in Brooklyn, Gene (Giullian Yao Gioiello) hosts an independent radio show to platform his music in hopes of one day finding a dedicated audience,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “Instead, his radio show reaches his recently deceased mother, Sook-Ja (Felice Choi), in the afterlife, through a radio powered by the stationary bikes that Sook-Ja and her interpreter, Han Sol (Stella Kim), ride each day.”
“Song for No One is a deeply personal exploration of grief, love, and the undying connections that bind us to those we’ve lost. This film is a tribute to the enduring spirit of my mother and to the many ways she continues to shape my life,” says Ma in a statement. “It is an immense privilege to share this experience with such a gifted cast and crew in bringing this story to life.” The film also features original music from Gioiello, ’ma 間’, released under the moniker of Tarune, an introspective song that delves into his emotions from early childhood, when his mother left for Taiwan.
