While playing through , players will notice that they accrue coins to be used in the shop, allowing them to unlock different items and character designs. These are specifically for use in the new Battle Mode in which players can customize their character with items purchased from the shop.
The coins required for unlocking these items are the in-game currency and can only be gained by playing through the traditional story mode of the game. The only exception is one complete design that is only unlocked through purchasing the Deluxe Version of as an exclusive and cannot be purchased in the shop.
Mecha Sonic will also be unlocked through the shop but is only available to those who have purchased the Deluxe Version of. It will have no additional cost.

Starting out, players will receive a default robot character, Prototype, specifically for Battle Mode use. This is the base for every design, but its different body parts can be swapped and customized to create something unique for every player. The items are mix and match, so players are not required to use all pieces from a specific set.\
Additionally, as expected based on other games, not every unlockable will be available right from the start, rather, the shop in will continue to unlock items as progress is made throughout the game and certain tasks are completed. There will also be a prompt on the screen each time something new appears in the shop so nothing is missed.
