An open beta for The Finals, the free-to-play shooter from developer Embark Studios, is now live. It's the game's first beta test supporting cross-platform play and cross-progression between current-gen consoles and PC.
Embark has warned players there are issues causing crashes in The Finals' beta client on Xbox and PlayStation, but a fix is expected «within the next hours,» as of midday on Thursday. For those attempting to play on Steam, invites are still rolling out--Embark said that «million» have signed up for playtesting so access is being opened «gradually.» Everyone should have access by partway through Friday, October 27.

Players can test out the fast-paced shooter from ex-Battlefield devs for a little over a week, with the beta ending on November 5. New content making its debut in the open beta is the new Skyway Stadium map and a new game-mode, Bank-It. A free, 16-tier Battle Pass is live for players to progress through, with rewards earned during the beta carrying over to the game's full launch. The beta in total features 20 weapons, 26 gadgets, and nine unique abilities for players to experiment with.
