Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth isn't going to stick to the script of the original game, we know that for certain. For starters, everyone's favorite himbo Zack Fair is alive and well, and it's already been stated by creative director Tetsuya Nomura that the remake trilogy will attempt to bring in certain story elements from spinoffs and movies such as Advent Children.
With the spinoffs come a whole cast of new characters too, and director Naoki Hamaguchi has now confirmed that Zack won't be the only spinoff character to feature in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. In an interview with Tech Raptor, Hamaguchi acknowledges that certain characters from the spinoff titles like Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus are very popular among fans, and that there are currently plans to include a select few in Rebirth.
Without again providing any major spoilers, besides Zack, who was not in the original Final Fantasy VII but will be making an appearance here, there’s going to be other characters fromFFVIIspinoffs that will be appearing in Rebirth as well.
Hamaguchi doesn't drop any names, but there is a fairly large pool of characters to choose from. Genesis is a prime candidate, the big bad guy of Crisis Core who is collected by Deepground after being defeated by Zack. Deepground features heavily in the Episode Intermission DLC for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, as do Weiss and Nero from Dirge of Cerberus.
Hamaguchi has been teasing fans with info for a while now, most recently claiming the original Final Fantasy 7's iconic death scene includes a "big surprise" in Rebirth.
Cissnei is another good shout, a member of the Turks who plays a key role in Crisis Core. She's almost never seen in any other Final Fantasy 7 games besides a brief appearance in Before
