Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, has revealed that there are two versions of every quest in the game to accommodate Red XIII's personality change after visiting Cosmo Canyon.
From what we've seen and played of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth so far, the long-awaited sequel to Remake is adding a ton of new things, like Chocobo riding, synergy attacks, an open world, and more. As great as all those are, though, one of the most exciting things that it's bringing to the table is the ability to play as Red XIII, who appeared as a late-game party member in Remake but couldn't be actively controlled.
Not only is Red XIII playable in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but he's also, somewhat strangely, able to ride on top of Chocobos, something that the internet has already fallen in love with.
Not only is Red XIII playable, but it seems like the developers have put a lot of time and effort into his inclusion in the game, as they've even created two versions of every quest to accommodate for Red XIII's personality change after the events of Cosmo Canyon. In the original version of Final Fantasy 7, Cloud and the rest of the party journey to Cosmo Canyon, which is where Red XIII was born. While there, it's revealed that his true name is Nanaki and that he's still regarded as a child by the rest of his species. While there, Red XIII gets over his dislike of his father and vows to become a warrior in his memory, which affects his character for the rest of the game and even changes some of his dialogue.
