Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is continuing the re-telling of Square Enix's most iconic entry, which means it's about to step into one of the most heartbreaking scenes in Final Fantasy history. I won't spoil anything yet, but that means fans are debating endlessly about the fates of their favourite characters and who deserves to face the music this time around.

Sephiroth will play a big role in Rebirth, even acting as one of the protagonists. If you've played the original FF7, you'll know he kills Aerith. But director Naoki Hamaguchi has teased a "big surprise" for that famous scene, sparking countless theories as to whether fate will be rewritten and someone else will take her place.
Unfortunately, fans have been hounding lead writer Kazushige Nojima with the characters they most want to see dead and with questions on whether Aerith will make it this time (as reported by VGC).
"I write every character with love," Nojima said. "You are free to have any opinions or thoughts, but please stop sending me messages saying I should delete this character or even kill that one. I don't want to block or mute too many of you, and I don't want to lock my account."
Nojima has a long history with Final Fantasy 7 and the series as a whole. He co-wrote the original game and later wrote Final Fantasy 8, X-2, and the movie 7: Advent Children. He also co-wrote Kingdom Hearts and served as the main writer on its sequel.
Rebirth isn't just a fresh take on a classic, it's a re-telling envisioned by one of its original creators. Whether that means Aerith dies or survives this time around is something we'll have to find out for ourselves when the game launches on February 29, spamming Nojima on social
