After Fable 3, developer Lionhead never got to make another mainline Fable game. Its last big project, Fable Legends, was cancelled before it could launch, leaving Lionhead's vision of Albion behind. However, it wasn't always going to be that way, with company co-founder Peter Molyneux revealing that he had thought about doing a proper single-player Fable game after the third one.
Speaking with TheGamer about Fable 3's development, Molyneux shares that while it was still in the works, he had thoughts about how the team could make the next game. In particular, he says he was interested in making a prequel that centres around the Guild of Heroes, going back to the magic of the first game.
"A big problem that occurred to me halfway through Fable 3 is that Fable 1 to Fable 3 is like 500 years of Albion,” says Molyneux. "And I thought, Oh my God, what are we going to do for Fable 4? Is it going to be set in space?"
He continues, explaining how he would have tackled this issue. "Going forward in Fable would have meant literally going towards the modern day. I probably would have made something called Fable Origins and gone back to what created the Guild of Heroes."

Indeed, Fable 3 brought Albion closer to the modern day than ever before. Being inspired by the Industrial Revolution, this version of Albion was a lot less magical and didn't leave much breathing room for a sequel.
Despite this, Fable 3 did get a sequel - kind of. Fable: The Journey, a Kinect spin-off, is set after the events of the third game, but doesn't centre around a protagonist from the usual Heroic bloodline. Similarly, Fable
