The Super Mario Bros Movie star Chris Pratt says news of the film’s inevitable sequel should be coming “soon”.
In an interview with ET Online, Pratt explained that most productions are on hold due to the ongoing writers’ strike, but that once it’s resolved information on the next Mario film should follow.
“We’re in the midst of this writers’ strike, and so everything has been paused and [put] on hold for the right reasons,” Pratt explained
“I really do support the WGA and our writers. When the negotiations have been completed, and the writers feel comfortable moving forward, then it’ll be time to start talking about what’s next for that.
“We’re so grateful for the support, though,” he added. “[It’s] really shocking to me how successful that movie’s been.
“I mean, I expected that people would love it the way I was excited about it, but it’s truly multigenerational around the world. People love it. They love Mario… It’s a really fun, funny, cute, heartwarming movie and, God, I can’t believe I’m part of it.”

A co-production between Illumination (Minions, Despicable Me) and Nintendo, The Super Mario Bros Movie has generated over $1.3 billion globally since its early April release.
This figure means it’s overtaken Disney’s Frozen ($1,284,540,518) and trails only Frozen II ($1,453,683,476) on the list of the highest-grossing animated films of all time.
Speaking during Nintendo’s quarterly earnings call last month, president Shuntaro Furukawa said the movie was having a positive impact on the company’s core games business.
