Yesterday, NetherRealm Studios held its first Kombat Kast livestream for Mortal Kombat 1, which featured a deep dive into Scorpion and Johnny Cage, as well as a new story trailer that focused on the Lin Kuei. The most exciting thing to come from that trailer was the confirmation that Smoke and Rain are going to be part of the launch roster, complete with new designs that set them apart from how they've appeared in previous Mortal Kombat games.

Over on the Mortal Kombat subreddit, fans of the series have been sharing their thoughts on Smoke and Rain's new designs. While the consensus so far is generally quite positive, with most loving Rain's new wizard look and the purposeful design similarities between all members of the Lin Kuei, there's one part of Smoke that a lot of fans are missing - his long flowing hair from Mortal Kombat 9.
Smoke was originally introduced as another palette-swap ninja, before being turned into one of the cyber Lin Kuei, which meant that we'd rarely seen him in his human form, let alone without his mask. Then, Mortal Kombat 9 opened all of our collective eyes by showing us what a smoking twink Smoke was under the mask, especially with his ashy flowing hair, something that really set him apart from the rest of the ninjas in the series.
