Nintendo Switch 2 Backward Compatibility Is Seemingly Still up in the Air
Back in June, Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa strongly suggested that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be backward compatible with its predecessor, as the Nintendo Account system will allow for a smooth transition. However, it seems like backward compatibility for the yet-to-be-revealed system still seems up in the air.
During the latest episode of the VGC podcast, it was revealed that two different developers the hosts have talked to have confirmed and denied that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be backward compatible with its predecessor, suggesting that Nintendo has yet to provide a solid update to developers already in possession of the console's devkit regarding the matter. Additionally, the hosts have revealed that the previous report about some of the console's specs is "right on the money."
Very little is currently known about the Nintendo Switch 2 other than the fact that it is indeed in the works. The new console will apparently come with an 8-inch LCD screen and as much as 512 GB of internal storage space, which are both big upgrades over the original Nintendo Switch and the OLED model released after it. Production is apparently starting early next year, as suggested by multiple reports, for a second half of 2024 worldwide release.
