Ed Boon likes to troll fans - that's hardly a secret by now. But with Mortal Kombat 1's release date fast approaching, it's possible that he just gave us a huge tease for other characters joining the roster - one that would see all the Mortal Kombat ninjas reunited for the first time in years.
Over on Twitter, Boon just shared a tweet from a fan hoping that all the male ninjas are on the same roster. While he doesn't explicitly confirm anything, he does say that this "could very well be the case". So far, Ermac and Reptile are the only missing fighters making this possible, meaning that Boon could be hinting that they'll be confirmed closer to release.

Understandably, this exchange has fans hyped, excited by the prospect of the whole ninja crew being together once again. This hasn't happened since Mortal Kombat (2011), the last time the timeline was reset, so it's not surprising to see fans hope this is the case.
It would also make a lot of sense from a narrative standpoint. The reason all the ninjas were shoved into MK9 was likely because they needed to be established in this new timeline. The same could be said for MK1 now, as all the ninjas have the chance to get a new backstory and characterisation, no longer held back by any pre-established lore.
If Reptile and Ermac are planned for the roster, it isn't too surprising that they weren't shown off yet. The most recent ninja reveals came as part of a dedicated Lin Kuei trailer - a group neither Reptile nor Ermac belong to. If they're loosely sticking to their usual origins, then the pair will likely be announced in relation to some kind of Outworld shenanigans.
