The Last of Us Composer Gustavo Santaolalla May Have Teased a New Version of Part 2 | Push Square

Given the global popularity of The Last of Us following the TV show, it stands to reason we’ll probably get an updated version of The Last of Us: Part 2 at some point. This is because the game is currently only available on the PS4, and we suspect Sony is going to eventually want a native version for the PS5 as well as PC.

In a Spanish interview, composer Gustavo Santaolalla may have hinted at exactly that. If you recall, during the opening stages of the sequel, you’ll see the musician playing a banjo as you walk through the Jackson settlement, but you couldn’t interact with him. Santaolalla said that “in the new editions you can make me play certain themes and, well, I can’t say anything else”.

The composer went on to make a signature motion with his hand, suggesting he’s under NDA. This would, to us, imply that Naughty Dog is currently working on an updated version of The Last of Us: Part 2, which has been rumoured before. It does make sense, although fans may not be too thrilled at the prospect of another re-release from Naughty Dog following The Last of Us: Part 1.

Obviously this is all conjecture based on a fairly vague Spanish interview, but it does make sense that a hypothetical re-release would come with some bonus features and Easter eggs, and making Santaolalla’s cameo more interactive would certainly fit the bill on that front.
