People Can Fly has announced the opening of a new studio in Montreal, Canada.
The studio will work on an original triple-A project which has been in development for several years at People Can Fly’s New York office.
Billed as “highly ambitious, groundbreaking action-adventure title”, the project is being led by creative director Roland Lesterlin and studio head David Grijns.
Lesterlin previously directed Just Cause 3 at Avalanche New York, while Grijns served as the game’s exec producer.
“Montreal’s amazing atmosphere and well-seasoned gamedev industry make this project extremely exciting for us,” People Can Fly said. “We believe that PCF Montreal will soon play a major role in our studios’ portfolio.”
People Can Fly, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2022 and was owned by Epic Games from 2012-2015, is the developer behind Gears of War: Judgment, Bulletstorm and most recently Outriders.
The Warsaw-headquartered company, which has four studios in Poland and another in Newcastle, England, currently has eight projects in the works.
Last month it signed a deal to develop a new title for Xbox Game Studios. The company said codename Project Maverick will be fully funded by IP owner Microsoft and will have a $30-50 million budget.
