Denkiworks, a new independent game development studio based in Kyoto, has announced its establishment.
The studio was founded by former Q-Games developers Liam Edwards, Taku Arioka, and Jan de Graaf. The trio met in 2018 while working at the studio, where Arioka was directing the development of PixelJunk Scrappers, de Graaf was one of the game’s programmers, and Edwards was a co-director. Edwards is also the creator and director of Chuhai Labs‘ Cursed to Golf, which de Graaf was also a programmer on.
Denkiworks is currently underway on its first title, Project Tanuki. In it, you play as a tanuki who cycles packages to residents around the city in the summertime. The project is described as “a love letter to Japan,” and the prototype was already being shown off to investors at Game Developers Conference 2023 back in March.
