LAS VEGAS—Arc System Works, the fighting game developer known for Guilty Gear Strive and Dragon Ball FighterZ, revealed today that it will release a sequel to one of its most popular fighting games. Created in collaboration with developer French-Bread, the upcoming Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes—the follow-up to 2012's Under Night In-Birth—will hit the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Steam platforms in 2024.
Like the original game, Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes is a novel-like fighting game that tells a tale of surviving the "Hollow Night," a story that began more than a decade ago. The upcoming title will feature 21 returning characters, and new attacks and In-Births (people who are neither alive or dead, according to the game's lore).
As with many contemporary fighting games, Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes offers a simplified control option for easing new players into the action. By simply pressing the EXS button, you can unleash stylish attacks with ease. In addition, the game will feature rollback netcode to facilitate smooth online battles in Rank and Player matches across great distances.
Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes' announcement represents the series' return to the Evolution Championship Series that runs this year from Aug. 4-6. In 2019, the previous release, Under Night In-Birth, amassed 1,157 tournament entrants.
An Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes demo is playable at Arc System Works's booth, and the company states that more game details will be shared soon.
