The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4, which is codenamed ‘Hamoa,’ is said to be Qualcomm’s first chipset to feature the company’s custom Oryon cores which were possible thanks to the Nuvia acquisition. According to the latest rumor, the chipset is said to arrive in three versions, with the most capable offering a 12-core CPU.
Coming to the details, WinFuture reports that the three Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 versions feature the model numbers SC8380 or SC8380XP, SC8370 or SC8370XP, and SC8350 or SC8350X. The biggest difference between the three is the number of CPU cores, and as stated above, the most powerful is said to offer a 12-core CPU configuration, with the less capable featuring 10 and 8 CPU cores.
The version that stands to deliver the highest multi-threaded performance will be recognized by the SC8380 or SC8380XP designation, sporting eight performance cores and four power-efficiency ones. As for the remaining, the 10-core version of the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 is likely to be divided into six performance cores and four power-efficiency ones, while the 8-core model should offer a ‘4 + 4’ design.
The report does not mention which specific machines this chipset will be featured in, but Qualcomm’s partners will likely sell Intel and AMD versions under a different family to avoid any unnecessary confusion. The three Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 versions may also operate at different clock speeds to set apart the performance differences between the three, but it is also possible that Qualcomm waters down the features to force consumers to spend more money on the fastest version.
For instance, in a massive specifications rumor, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 was said to offer Wi-Fi 7, 5G, and external GPU support through a Thunderbolt connection. It is not
