Reliable rumors about 2023’s Call of Duty title have been swirling for some time, but now Activision Blizzard has finally confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is coming our way this year. Originally, it was reported that CoD would actually be skipping 2023, with a major expansion for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II to be released instead. Later, that expansion would morph into a full game, headed up by Sledgehammer Games. It was Sledgehammer Games that made the officially CoD: MWIII announcement, essentially confirming this timeline.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III teaser doesn’t reveal a lot about the game, aside from showing us some images of Captain Price and Vladimir Makarov, which would seem to confirm the game’s story will follow closely on the heels of Modern Warfare II. While Activision themselves aren’t revealing much yet, some images from the game’s internal alpha that leaked several weeks back have provided some details. Apparently, the classic minimap will be back, and perks will now be tied to gear. So, for instance, you might be able to buy a pair of boots that will give you the Ninja perk, ect. Basically, it's a new way to get players buying gear. It’s also been reported by Insider Gaming that a number of classic Call of Duty multiplayer maps as well as the “War” mode from CoD WW2 will be returning.
As for when we can expect more official information, it will likely be revealed via an event in Call of Duty Warzone 2.0, although a date on when that will happen hasn’t been provided yet. Expect it to happen soon – this month at the very least, but possibly as early as this week.
