Red Dead Redemption is making its way onto PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch very soon, although not in the way most fans expected.
Today, Rockstar Games confirmed that their popular open-world game originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, will launch on PS4 and Nintendo Switch next week, on August 17th, complete with the Undead Nightmare DLC expansion. Unfortunately, this new version of the game, developed by Double Eleven Studios, looks like a straight port of the original with little visual improvements outside of a resolution bump and slightly enhanced LOD and textures, as shown in the announcement trailer that can be watched below.
Despite the new version of the game being an almost straight port of the original, the return of Red Dead Redemption is most welcome indeed, considering how it was not possible to play the original release on modern hardware, with the exception of the Xbox Series X and S which can play the Xbox 360 release via backward compatibility. Still, it is disappointing to see not only PC getting skipped once again but also yet another re-release from Rockstar Games not featuring the visual and gameplay improvements a game like Red Dead Redemption deserves.
Red Dead Redemption launches on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17th. A retail release will launch on October 13th worldwide.
