16 years after its release, Team Fortress 2 is still going strong. It has updates, a huge player base, and iconic characters. The game is just another one of Valve’s many successes in producing a free-to-play game that keeps the community coming back year after year. With a recent rumor popping up that Team Fortress 2 might be closing its servers, players are justified in their surprise and disappointment. However, there may not be any truth to the rumor.
With a recent tweet released on the Everythingoutofcontext Twitter page, fans of Team Fortress 2 were dismayed to hear that the servers were closing down. In 2023, the PlayStation 3 servers had been taken down. Maybe this was the final plug-pull for the rest of them too?

No, as it turns out, it isn’t. Steam has voiced no plans to shut down the servers for Team Fortress 2. The game still has plenty of life left in it. Therefore there is no doubt have players gunning each other down for years to come. Team Fortress 2 still pulls in thousands of players a day and has a dedicated audience.
The tweet was simply a fabricated image from the meme page. It was an attempt to cause a stir, which it most certainly has. Even Opera GX’s Twitter retweeted the image, only furthering the server rumor to thousands of people. It’s always good to trace back your sources to the origin before spreading information, whether it is true or not.
