Spider-Man fans are arguing whether it was really Insomniac's Spider-Man who appeared in Across the Spider-Verse, or if it was just a variant of the one we know.
Even before Across the Spider-Verse, Insomniac's Spider-Man has had a history of appearing in the Spider-Verse movies, first being referenced with the Advanced Suit appearing in the Earth-1610 Spider-Man's suit collection. That already raises some questions about how Chris Pine's Spider-Man would have seen the suit, but we'll dismiss it as a fun little easter egg towards the games.

Things got a lot more complicated in Across the Spider-Verse, however. Not only does Insomniac's Spider-Man make an in-person appearance during the movie, but he actually shows up multiple times. An animated version of him using the Advanced Suit can be seen in the lobby, while a version of him that's looks exactly as he does in the games can be seen and referred to as "another video game guy" by Lyla. That's even ignoring the version of the character we see Ganke playing as in Miles' universe.
Now, a month after the movie's release, Spider-Man fans are arguing whether that was the actual version of the character that we know from the games, or a variant like all the others we see in the Spider Society. The main post arguing this was started in the Spider-Man PS4 subreddit by Redditor square753wheel, who shared an image of the "another video game guy" Spidey and said, "Uses the model, voiced by Yuri AND LITERALLY SAYS INSOMNIAC SPIDER-MAN. I also really don’t see how it ruins the grounded story insomniac has set up".
