Bungie is warning Destiny 2 Lightfall players of a progression-blocking bug for the expansion's campaign revolving around the new Hypernet Current Strike. There's a workaround, but Bungie is still cautioning players because of how easy it is to trigger the bug. New expansions for live service games can often lead to unforeseen errors, and Destiny 2 is frequently an example of this. Bungie, to its credit, is often quick to communicate issues and get to work on fixes.
The new Lightfall expansion for Destiny 2 officially launched on February 28, unlocking a story campaign in which players venture to the planet of Neptune. On Neptune, the population is nowhere to be found. They've gone into hiding, of sorts, sleeping in the CloudArk and taking on virtual lives until the planet is safe. A Lightfall Strike named Hypernet Current, one of Destiny 2's dungeon-like missions, tasks players to defend against a Taken effort to attack and infect the CloudArk.

This Hypernet Current Strike is also tied into the Lightfall story campaign. Players will eventually be tasked with completing it in order to progress, though the campaign version of the Strike is slightly different than the normal one. This is the root of the bug. It's possible to play through the Hypernet Current Strike before reaching it in the campaign. However, if players do so, Destiny 2 won't load the correct version necessary to progress in the campaign. Players will be stuck.
Long story short, the best way to avoid the bug is to not do the Hypernet Current Strike before completing it via the Lightfall campaign. The Strike can pop up in the Vanguard playlist, however, which may force players to experience the bug
