The Shadow Lantern is a club that can be found and equipped in Act Two, but it's more useful as a weapon than as a summoning item. This is because it only summons the weak Shadows that are scattered throughout the act that generally take a single hit to defeat. Unlike other summoning items, this one needs to be equipped in order to summon any Shadows, and they can be summoned once per long rest.
Balthazar is in Act Two and is one of the harder fights if the party chooses violence.
