Apple is reportedly working on extensive upgrades across the AirPods line, with plans to completely overhaul the product in 2024.
In his weekly PowerOn newsletter Sunday Bloomberg Apple reporter Mark Gurman said that Apple is planning major changes for the AirPods line in 2024. While the product has been successful for the company overall, it’s also facing a lot of competition from brands such as Samsung, Jabra, and Bose.
To that end, Gurman says that he expects new AirPods to show up in late 2024.
Specifically, he expects a new entry-level fourth-generation of the headphones with an updated design and case as well as improved audio, USB-C charging, and a better fit to arrive late next year.
Additionally, he thinks we’ll also see a more upscale version of those earbuds with noise cancellation Ana Find My alerts as well as a new AirPods Max with a USB-C case and new color options.
Later on in 2025, Gurman predicts we’ll see Revamped AirPods Pro with an updated design and chip.
He says that the updates will potentially make it easier for consumers to differentiate between the different models and perhaps justify springing for a more expensive one.
Monday evening Apple is holding a “Scary Fast”-themed event where it’s expected to announce a new line of M3 chips for the Mac as well as major refreshes to the company’s high-end MacBook Pro line as well as the first update to the iMac since spring of 2021.
