The Gfk has released (via GamesIndustry) the latest weekly physical sales data for the United Kingdom, as per which Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game in the region last week, thanks to a combination of the launch of its Nintendo Switch version and Black Friday discounts. In fact, as per GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring, the open world RPG has enjoyed the 2023’s third-biggest physical launch for a Switch title in the UK, behind only The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
That means Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which debuted on top of the charts last week, has fallen to No. 2. It saw a 41% drop on sales, and is one of only two games in this week’s top 40 (alongside RoboCop: Rogue City) to see a week-on-week decline in sales. Meanwhile, Super Mario RPG has debuted in sixth place, and as per Dring, its physical launch sales are 10% lower than what Paper Mario: The Origami King managed upon its release in 2020.
A number of games have enjoyed sales boosts thanks to Black Friday discounts, including the likes of EA Sports FC 24 (up 115%) and Assassin’s Creed Mirage (up 165%). Meanwhile, outside the top 10, the likes of Final Fantasy 16, Resident Evil 4, The Last of Us Part 1, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales also saw sales increases following price reductions, while Forspoken and Gran Turismo 7, too, have enjoyed increased sales thanks to bundling.
