PS5 Sales Surpass 50 Million Units Worldwide; Tracking in on PS4 Time-Aligned Sales

PS5 sales have surpassed 50 million units globally, Sony has today announced.

Sony revealed the impressive sales number for its console through an official press release, mentioning that these numbers refer to actual units sold to consumers instead of shipped units. Interestingly, with the PS5 now hitting this new sales milestone as of December 9th, the console is now tracking on time-aligned sales of the PlayStation 4 worldwide - as mentioned by Eurogamer's Christopher Dring, the PS5 is now tracking only one week behind the PS4 whereas, in July of this year, the console was tracking two months behind the PS4.

PS5 hit 50m sales (sold to consumers, not shipments) on December 9th. Which is about a week slower than PS4. Back in July, the console was tracking 2 months behind PS4.

After launching in November 2020, Sony's console was hard to come by due to high demand as well as semiconductor shortages, but as confirmed by PlayStation boss Jim Ryan during CES 2023, PS5 was greatly increased and those looking for one should have an easier time finding one.
