The first trailer has been released for the upcoming zombie movie.
28 Years Later is the forthcoming sequel to 2002’s 28 Days Later, which was followed by 2007’s 28 Weeks Later. Danny Boyle, who directed the original movie with Cillian Murphy, returns to helm the new post-apocalyptic project. Boyle co-wrote the screenplay alongside Civil War’s Alex Garland.

28 Years Later stars Jodie Comer (The Bikeriders), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven the Hunter), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Jack O’Connell (Ferrari), Erin Kellyman (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and Edvin Ryding (Young Royals). Murphy will also reprise his role as Jim from 28 Days Later in the movie, though it’s unclear how large of a role the character will have.
Speaking with IndieWire in October 2024, Fiennes teased of the movie’s plot, “Britain is 28 years into this terrible plague of infected people who are violent, rabid humans with a few pockets of uninfected communities. And it centers on a young boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother. He leads his mother through this beautiful northern English terrain. But of course, around them hiding in forests and hills and woods are the infected. But he finds a doctor who is a man we might think is going to be weird and odd, but actually is a force for good.”
Boyle’s forthcoming sequel is the first film in a new trilogy. It was shot back-to-back with the second film in the series, which is directed by Candyman and The Marvels’ Nia DaCosta. A release date for that movie has not yet been announced.
28 Years Later will be released in United States theaters on June 20, 2025, by Sony Pictures Releasing.
