We've made it to the end of 2024, so now is a perfect time to reflect on the last 12 months. As always, we made some predictions way back in January, and so now we must look to see which of them came true, and which were a load of rubbish. Editor Sammy Barker and assistant editor Liam Croft came joint first for 2023, but who's in the lead this time? Let's take a look.
"Kingdom Hearts helps Disney overcome the darkness at D23."
Unfortunately for Sammy, Kingdom Hearts 4 was a no-show at the 2024 D23 expo, so no points for this prediction. It wasn't a bad one to make, though — we are due for an update on that game soon. Well, hopefully.
"Zenless Zone Zero completes the holy gacha trifecta on PS5."
As expected from our resident gacha expert, Sammy was right on the money with this. Zenless Zone Zero has indeed become another smash hit for HoYoverse, and the detail about it being a console exclusive on PS5 has also proven true — for the time being, anyway.
"Stellar Blade becomes a cult PS5 classic."
This is a difficult prediction to nail down, because it probably needs a little more time before it can really be declared a cult classic. However, Sammy probably should get the point here because Stellar Blade has accrued a following, and while it did pretty well critically, it's been somewhat forgotten during the awards season. It more or less fits the bill, then — we'll give it to him. It's Christmas after all.

While we have had some decent shows from Sony this year, it's difficult to call any of them «the best in years». There were definitely some highlights from some 2024 shows, including the announcement of Astro Bot and Ghost of Yotei, but it's difficult to argue any one presentation has been better than in previous years.
