Fear not, obedient citizens of Super Earth, Helldivers 2 support isn't stopping anytime soon; following the news that lead dev (and former Arrowhead CEO) Johan Pilestedt is going on sabbatical, players trained to take direction from authority figures began to get concerned. CEO Shams Jorjani has taken to the game's official Discord server (thanks, GamesRadar+) to calm the masses, explaining that the game isn't going anywhere before diving into Pilestedt's leave-taking habits, specifically, and that of Swedes in general:
«Johan is just on an extended vacation. He's never been on a proper vacation since the company was founded [in 2008]. We get six weeks of vacation annually—most Swedes take four weeks off in the summer. He's never done that. He's got about 65 days saved up or something. He's just beat. When he's back, he'll keep being the grandfather and sounding board for Helldivers and get going with a new project in due time.»
That established, Jorjani goes on to say that a theoretical Helldivers 3 might not even be necessary at this stage, considering how far the second game has come since launch: «As long as people play, pay, and we can build a business case around it, we'll support it to hell and back. If we can keep it going for 10 years, we will. Compare Helldivers today to when it launched. It's so, so much more. Now imagine Helldivers in three years. Tell me how that's different from a hypothetical 'Helldivers 3'.»
