Ramón Rodríguez portrays the titular character on the ABC police procedural series as well as serving as an executive producer on the show. Toward the of the finale, the viewers learn that Will took a duffel bag and his chihuahua Betty and disappeared. On the eve of the premiere of, Rodríguez disclosed Will’s whereabouts in a new interview.
Rodríguez explained where his character has been in the intermediate period between Seasons 2 and 3 of Will Trent. Notably, Will Trent premiered on ABC on January 3, 2023, with Season 2 debuting on February 20, 2024.
While speaking to TV Insider, Rodríguez revealed that Will had been in rural Tennessee along with Betty. “Season 3 starts off with where we went at the end of Season 2,” he elaborated. “We just know he disappeared. We don’t know where he went. We don’t know what he did. And we learn that he went to … rural Tennessee with him and Betty, and he kind of tried to start over.”
Rodríguez also mentioned that the series would make it clear that some time had passed between the second and third seasons by underscoring how different the main character would look from previous chapters. The actor added, “… so he’s [Will] taking some time to kind of reflect and get away and start over and, I think, really ask questions if his life that he was pursuing in the GBI was right, and is this what he wants to be doing? And so it was a lot of self-reflection. He had to have that walk.”
He confirmed that Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn) would visit Will and demand he return, prompting him to go back to his old life, albeit reluctantly, and face the things left behind. This includes his strained relationships with Faith (Iantha Richardson) and Angie (Erika Christensen).
Will Trent Season 3 premieres on ABC on January 7, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET.
