With Top Spin 2K25 now exceedingly close to its April 26 launch date, we were able to pry a few tidbits about the long-awaited fifth installment in the tennis franchise from Game Director Remi Ercolani. In our interview, we received confirmation that, unfortunately, online doubles will not be available at launch.
TopSpin 2K25 won’t support online doubles at launch, but we’re hoping to offer more options in the future. Each mode will have its own specificities and unique features to keep players motivated to return and play daily, and all ranked modes will have leaderboards for fans to keep an eye on the competition.
We tried to get clarification on whether the response referred just to four players joining online or even to local co-op going online. The absence of even the latter would be particularly disappointing, given that even the very first Top Spin game supported the feature over twenty years ago on the original Xbox console. We won't have to wait long to verify that ourselves, though, as review codes are coming shortly. Either way, we hope Hangar 13 can rectify the absence of full-fledged online doubles before long, as that's one of the main reasons many fans were looking forward to the game.
As a reminder, Top Spin 2K25 can be pre-ordered now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X. The Deluxe Edition is available for $99.99 and includes the Standard Edition (with dual-gen entitlement for console), Under the Lights Pack, plus New Wave Pack featuring Alternate Outfits for Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Świątek, and Francis Tiafoe, plus a collection of additional apparel, and the Rookie Rise Pack which features a MyPlayer Boost and 1700 VC. The Deluxe Edition also comes with three days of early access, making the game available for play from April 23.
