says is the “best payback” for Hulu’s show.
Anderson plays Shelly Gardner in The Last Showgirl, a new drama directed by Gia Coppola that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024 and is now playing in United States theaters. The movie earned Anderson a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Drama, among other accolades.
Anderson was also the subject of a 2022 Hulu miniseries, Pam & Tommy, that saw Lily James portray her alongside Sebastian Stan’s Tommy Lee.
Anderson, who has previously criticized the Hulu show for not consulting her about the subject matter, discussed how Pam & Tommy was “hurtful” because she “didn’t have any involvement” when speaking on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, via Entertainment Weekly.
“I found out about the Hulu thing during the filming of [my Netflix] documentary, [Pamela, a Love Story],” Anderson said. “I didn’t know anything about it.
She continued, “But I mean, you’re kind of fair game. I remember people telling me that a long time ago, that you are basically public property and have no right to privacy.”
Still, while Anderson says she doesn’t “dwell” on Pam & Tommy, she did think “it was kind of a strange thing to pick a very terrible time in [her] life and make entertainment and people were nominated for Emmys and all sorts of stuff.”
Anderson continued she doesn’t think James is to blame for Pam & Tommy.
“I mean, I’m sure she’s a great actress and stuff, and I don’t care,” she continued. “I mean, it’s just one of those things. It happened and now I’m here, and so [The Last Showgirl] is the best payback…I’m being seen and recognized for my work and not these tawdry moments.”
