A new rumor has propped up about the anticipated Gears of War 6.
As if coming out of nowhere, the hype machine for Gears of War 6 started last week. Paris Lilly and Jeff Grubb were both at the Xcast podcast when they talked about getting teases that the game would be revealed or announced shortly.
Subsequently, Tom Warren, editor at The Verge, Shinobi602, and NatetheHate all corroborated this rumor about a pending reveal for Gears of War 6. None of them shared more details, but that’s where this new rumor comes in.
Tom Warren shared this tidbit in a new report about an executive shakeup in Microsoft:
“Microsoft is in the middle of planning for its big summer Xbox showcase. I understand this is set to take place on Sunday, June 9th, and Microsoft is currently planning to announce a new Gears of War game at the show.”
So Tom has gone forward with a date for the Xbox Games Showcase, and even added that the official announcement for a new Gears of War game, likely Gears of War 6, is also coming at the event.
But of course, we know that The Coalition has been working on Gears of War 6 for quite some time. The Coalition was hiring for a new Gears of War game since 2022, but it wasn’t until February 2023 when Jeff Grubb shared the rumor that that game would be Gears of War 6.
Since then, we’ve been learning small snippets of progress, but nothing solid about The Coalition’s progress. The most significant update on this front came in August 2023, when Shpeshal Nick Baker claimed that the title was ‘further along than some might think.’ If Nick’s sources were confident in sharing that information, that source’s intention seems to be to signal to fans that the wait was ending soon.
