A new rumor suggests that a remake of the classic PS1 title MediEvil 2 will debut at the speculated PlayStation Showcase in May. The report originates from Orangee, a supposed playtester who previously leaked details about upcoming Gravity Rush projects, and alleges that the game is being handled by the same team who shipped the 2019 MediEvil remake.
Orangee first entered the fray with claims of a Gravity Rush movie in development at Sony, which were proven accurate at the company's CES 2024 press conference. They've also claimed that a remastered version of Gravity Rush 2 is set to launch this summer for PS5, with a PC version coming at a later date. They added that the remaster should be out by late summer (August-September) and that Sony even has a functional Steam Deck build of the game. It does sound plausible, since Sony usually aligns a game release adjacent to a PlayStation Productions project of the same IP.
The leaker revealed in a Discord channel that a MediEvil 2 remake has been in the works at Other Ocean Interactive since 2021, and is apparently slated for release this May. Other Ocean had previously shipped 2019's MediEvil remake back in 2019, so it's logical to assume it'll be working on the sequel's remake as well.
Orangee's claims suggest that theMediEvil 2 remake is planned to be revealed at the rumored PlayStation Showcase in May. Moreover, this has led to speculation that Sony will shadow drop the remake after the Showcase, which means it'll be available to play right after it's shown. Credible gaming insider Jeff Grubb first talked about this event on a recent GiantBomb podcast.
This MediEvil 2 rumor further reinforces the notion of a potential PlayStation Showcase in May. The company held its last showcase in May 2023, so it can be assumed it'll continue the pattern this year too. Sony also has confirmed 2024 titles that have yet to receive release dates, like Concord and the Silent Hill 2 remake, which would ideally have to be shown off soon.
