Rumor: Another Far Cry Spin-Off May Be in the Works

Ubisoft appears to be developing a Far Cry spin-off based on the Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix animated series, some newly emerged evidence suggests. Called Captain Laserhawk Niji Warrior, the game in question is poised to be the series' first spin-off since the Zero Latency-developed Far Cry VR: Dive Into Insanity, which hit the market in June 2021.

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is a critically acclaimed animated series inspired by Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. The anime was created by Adi Shankar, an American filmmaker whom gaming audiences might recognize for his work on the Castlevania: Nocturne series, where he serves as an executive producer. A Blood Dragon Remix hit Netflix in mid-October 2023 and was met with a warm reception from the fandom and critics alike. However, neither Ubisoft nor Netflix have yet given any indication that there are plans to expand on this IP beyond the anime's initial six-episode run.

Be that as it may, the Pan-European Game Information (PEGI) database has just added a rating for Captain Laserhawk Niji Warrior. The newly surfaced listing describes the unannounced Far Cry spin-off as a multiplayer experience that tasks players with competing to eliminate the most opponents in a game of «laser deathmatch.» The title received a PEGI 12 rating due to its depictions of violence against humanoid characters, with that classification being more lenient than the one attached to the actual anime. For reference, Netflix recommends Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix for ages 16 and up.

The PEGI rating also reveals that Captain Laserhawk Niji Warror will feature microtransactions, specifically mentioning the ability to purchase in-game cosmetics. While that description might point to this being a free-to-play mobile experience, the classification lists PC as the game's sole target platform. That's not to say Captain Laserhawk Niji Warror will necessarily be a PC exclusive, as major publishers often file for separate game ratings
