Pokemon Sleep is adding the thunderous Legendary Raikou to its line-up. Fans didn’t know what to make of Pokemon Sleep when it was first announced back in 2019, as The Pokemon Company only gave a proper explanation for what it was shortly before its release last summer. As its name suggests, Pokemon Sleep is a mobile app that tracks a player’s sleep patterns and allows them to unlock different Pokemon by simply having their phone next to them while dozing off for the night.
Despite some concerns over Pokemon Sleep tracking users’ sleep data and the potential fire hazard of leaving their cell phones on overnight, the game has had a somewhat decent reception after launch. Developer Select Button has been adding new features and unlockable Pokemon to Pokemon Sleep, and even held a special in-game Halloween event last October. In January, players could visit Lapis Lakeside and nap with creatures like Dratini, Gardevoir, and Stufful.
Now a Legendary Pokemon is bedding down for the night in Pokemon Sleep, as revealed during today’s Pokemon Presents livestream. In a short and charming new Pokemon Sleep trailer, the Thunder Pokemon Raikou is seen running through a stormy field before resting in a Pokemon Sleep player’s bedroom. The phone app places Raikou under the Snoozing category, meaning players can unlock it by getting a reasonable amount of sleep. Raikou will be added to Pokemon Sleep sometime in March, and the trailer also reveals that its fellow Legendaries Entei and Suicune will join it at an unspecified point.
Raikou, Entei, and Suicune make up a trinity of Legendary Pokemon that were introduced in Pokemon Gold and Silver, serving as spiritual successors to Gen 1’s Legendary Bird trio. Like most Legendaries, these three creatures are extremely popular among fans, with Entei and Suicune even getting major supporting roles in some of the earlier Pokemon animated films.
