With the Classic Beta updated to Cataclysm Patch 4.4.0, we've started datamining changes and information — and have discovered some interesting data strings. While this information is found within the Beta files, keep in mind — not all datamined changes will make it to live!
Classic Beta Updated to Cataclysm Patch 4.4.0
Two Global Strings were discovered in preliminary datamining related to uprezzed graphics:
While this doesn't give us a lot of information, we can speculate as to what these strings are related to. One option could be related to the infamous graphic overhaul that Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms received in Cataclysm, both to allow flying as well as changing the world in various ways as a result of Deathwing's influence. Another option could be preparation for upgraded character models in the future — while major model overhauls weren't introduced until Warlords of Draenor, these strings could potentially be setting the stage for future-proofing Warlords of Draenor Classic.
It's also possible that these strings are just artifacts of the development process — not everything that is datamined makes it into live versions of the game, and often times datamined information can appear years in advance of it being actually implemented. A prime example of this is the recent discovery of Lord Godfrey's Old Spectacles, an item datamined 14 years ago that was just found obtainable in Dragonflight Patch 10.2.5.
