Blizzard Entertainment has announced that Diablo 4 Season 4 will arrive later than expected, setting a release date of May 14, 2024.
The company revealed the schedule change during the latest entry in its Campfire Chat series. It’s a delay that puts the next wave of dungeon-crawling content out one month later than the previously announced April 16 date. That means Season 3, Season of the Construct, will be around for an extra month, too.
Diablo Community Lead Adam Fletcher explained the reasoning behind the move, saying that Blizzard won’t be launching its upcoming Public Test Realm (PTR) for Season 4 until April 2. With PTR set to conclude one week later on April 9, the team wanted to ensure it had enough time to consider and implement player feedback before moving full force into Season 4.
“We're pushing it back a few weeks to ensure that we get all of the feedback from this PTR and we apply it to Season 4 to make sure that all of these new system changes are right and work for the community based off of everyone’s feedback,” Fletcher said.
Diablo 4 players will notice that Season 4’s in-game date will change to reflect the schedule update soon. Additionally, PTR will only be available for PC Battle.Net only this time around. Fletcher says this allows the team to be “a little bit more agile,” though they are exploring other ways to bring PTR to players in the future.
Diablo 4 Season 3 brought players Class changes as well as new items to help buff out some builds that needed special attention. Season 4 might be one of the game’s biggest yet, as Blizzard promises an itemization rework that could change how loot impacts the overall experience.
In other Diablo 4 news, Blizzard will bring the title to Xbox Game Pass players next week on March 28. That gives subscribers an extra month to dive into Season 3 before the Season 4 dam breaks. PC players, meanwhile, can look forward to the long-awaited ray-tracing update, which is set to arrive just two days earlier come March
