The updates for Baldur’s Gate 3 are coming thick and fast. The latest, Hotfix 21, is live now across PC, Mac, and PlayStation, but Xbox players must wait.
Hotfix 21 takes aim at bugs, crashes, and blockers, and restores the ability to send items to specific camp companions while outside of camp. “Feel free to send all your heavy items to Karlach for easy access,” developer Larian said in typically fun patch notes. “She can handle the strain, don’t worry.”
What isn’t fun, however, is what’s happening with the Xbox version of the sprawling Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. Xbox players are still waiting on Hotfix 20 and are now waiting on Hotfix 21 also, with both updates still undergoing testing for Microsoft’s console. Larian said this is the result of the discovery of a crash bug exclusive to Xbox, so it’s taking the time to investigate and solve the issue “so your future adventures go a little smoother”.
This has an unfortunate knock-on effect, however: currently, cross-saves are not loadable on Xbox if they come from platforms that have already been updated to Hotfixes 20 or 21 (from today, that’s all the others). “We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and are working to bring these hotfixes to Xbox as soon as possible,” Larian said.
As Larian tends to with all Baldur’s Gate 3 patch notes now, it issues a warning about mods:
Last month, Larian called on the Baldur’s Gate 3 community to cease what it called “threats and toxicity” over mod support, insisting conversations around new features “take time”. Ever since Baldur's Gate 3 came out in August 2023, players who use mods have been frustrated with having to uninstall, reinstall, update, and re-juggle their mods every time a new patch is released. So the recent announcement that official mod support is on its way was seen as a positive. However, a vocal minority within the community took things too far.
