One Pokemon fan has created an evolution for the Bug/Steel-type monster, Durant. Fans of the Pokemon franchise have been creating fan art since the first generation of games released on the Game Boy, and each new generation of games brings a wave of new ideas from the community.
Since the release of Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue, most of the franchise’s monsters can evolve into different forms via various methods. With the recent announcement that the next game in the series will be Pokemon Legends Z-A, players have been busy theorizing about potential new additions to the Pokedex. One artist has shared their take on one monster who has yet to gain an evolution of their own.
Posting to the r/Pokemon subreddit, a user by the name of JJonnie has shared their take on a possible evolution for Durant, the Bug/Steel-type monster that was first introduced in Pokemon Black and White. The creature remains on the list of Pokemon that cannot evolve, with the Redditor looking to fix this with a new evolution titled Duregal. The pocket monster is a queen evolution of Durant and features a large dress-like body, complete with a steel hat. JJonnie’s artwork suggests that Duregal would keep the same duel typing as its pre-evolution form and would be protected by any Durants that appear beside it in battle.
The replies to the thread praise the work and thought that has gone into creating Duregal, with some drawing comparisons to Vespiquen. While there are similarities to the bee-like Pokemon, such as the female-only evolution and the wide dress-like design, fans are commenting that the type-set would be more useful in battle compared to Vespiquen’s Bug/Flying combination, albeit with a large disadvantage against Fire-types.
While it is unlikely that Game Freak will use JJonnie’s art as inspiration for a future Durant evolution, it is still possible that players will encounter new forms of older monsters. Gamers will remember that Stantler was able to evolve into Wyrdeer in Pokemon
