A Hogwarts Legacy player spots a bizarre visual glitch that turns parts of the castle purple. Many magical things can happen throughout the duration of a Hogwarts Legacy playthrough, but this alternate appearance of the castle is almost certainly unintentional.
Hogwarts Legacy became the best-selling game of 2023 and exceeded Warner Bros. Interactive's expectations. Despite multiple delays, the game was a hit, with the developer seemingly using the extra time to create a smooth experience with minimal bugs. Nintendo Switch fans had to wait the longest to play the Harry Potter title, with the game releasing for the console in November 2023, 9 months after its initial release. With the game now in more hands than ever, players have beeing discovering to discover some interesting glitches, including one that turns parts of the castle purple.
Reddit user Just_A_Ginger03 recently shared a screenshot highlighting their Hogwarts Legacy character on a broom near the school. The player is returning to Madam Kogawa from Flying Class, likely following the acquisition of their broom or after popping the balloons shortly after. The image shows much of the roof of the castle covered in purple in place of what's normally brown or green. Parts of the castle roof typically have green moss that emphasizes the age of the magical Hogwarts Legacy school, but the purple makes the building look a lot different.
Although many of these purple spots would normally have green moss, it doesn't seem like the issue is directly tied to the green textures, with part of the screenshot showing that one segment of Hogwarts Castle still has green moss on it. This may suggest that something else is causing the glitch. Some players have noted that this happens when they fly past certain locations in Hogwarts Legacy's open world too fast on their brooms. Just_A_Ginger03 has clarified that they're playing on Xbox Series S without mods, which decreases the possibility that the player has caused this issue.
