A knowledgeable Pokemon fan has put together a chart highlighting every kind of evolutionary path that the series has explored so far. Each Pokemon game adds a new assortment of collectible creatures to Nintendo’s lineup, with more recent installments adding new variants like regional forms and special Paradox Pokemon that represent what certain Pokemon would have looked like in the ancient past or far-off future. However, one of the series’ oldest and most noteworthy mechanics is the standard evolution, which allows certain Pokemon to transform into stronger monsters by fulfilling certain conditions.
These conditions are incredibly varied, though many of the series’ evolutions are achieved by having the Pokemon in question reach a particular experience level. Others are more specific, requiring said Pokemon to be exposed to a certain item like an elemental stone or raising a certain stat in order to evolve further. There are also branching paths within certain evolutionary trees, giving players different forms with alternate elemental abilities to choose from while trying to get their Pokemon to grow further.
A Reddit user named Mx_Toniy_4869 recently highlighted this by creating a chart of each different type of evolutionary line featured in the Pokemon series so far. From the standard linear path of three different stages that define most Pokemon starter options to more specialized branching pathways, this chart illustrates the many different forms a Pokemon’s evolutionary path could take. Some of the paths shown are exclusive to one particular line, such as Applin’s branching middle option or the circular format of the famous Eevee line.
In addition to trying to figure out which existing Pokemon evolutions match up to Mx_Toniy_4869’s illustrations, fans in the comment section have also shared their ideas for new Pokemon evolution types that haven’t been explored yet. One such suggestion is a convergent line where a late-stage evolution could come from one of two
