A long-standing mystery finally has a satisfactory solution — but it wasn't answered by. 's massive, game-changing DLC resolved many secrets, answering a number of lingering questions about people, places, and things otherwise unexplained. But it couldn't turn over every stone. The setting still retains a lot of mystique. Whether someone at CD Projekt Red is saving these secrets for the sequel to , or no one's come up with a good answer yet, varies from case to case.
But some of 's biggest mysteries are answered in unexpected places. Between the tabletop game, the video game, and the anime, the setting has an extensive body of lore, and sometimes details are hidden away in obscure sourcebooks that have been out of print for 20 years. And sometimes, unexpected details have a major impact on figures central to the continuity — at least one of them details an important character's ultimate fate.
Everyone knows that Johnny Silverhand died following the raid on Arasaka Tower that catapulted him into eternal superstardom, and his consciousness was eventually uploaded into the Relic that V steals and eventually installs during. But the question of what really happened to his body after the fact is a much more complicated one.
Just by running through the game normally, players may eventually encounter the side job “.” This involves sneaking onto the Ebunike container ship alongside Rogue, where V encounters Adam Smasher's right-hand man, Jeremiah Grayson. V interrogates Grayson to find out what Adam Smasher did with Johnny after Arasaka killed him, and Grayson reveals that Johnny's body was dumped in the Northern Oilfields after his death. V will then ride out to the spot where Johnny was buried in an unmarked grave, and the two will have a heart-to-heart.
V's dialogue with Johnny during this quest may determine whether the player unlocks the secret ending of , “ .”
