The Nintendo Switch 2 console could be getting one of the most popular MMORPGs of all time, Final Fantasy XIV, but it could only happen some time after the system launches.
Speaking in a new interview with Easy Allies, Final Fantasy XIV's producer Naoki Yoshida was asked about a possible release of the MMORPGs on the next Nintendo console. According to Yoshi-P, it's been his dream for over ten years to make sure the game could be played by as many players as possible, regardless of the platform. As such, the development team would love to have the game on a Nintendo platform, but it may take some time for this to happen. Mentioning the Xbox Series X|S version of the game, Naoki Yoshida highlighted how this version of the game happened years after they started talking with Microsoft, so we should definitely not expect Final Fantasy XIV to be available close to the Nintendo Switch 2 launch.
When it comes to third-party support, the next Nintendo console should see a fair amount of support in its first few years. According to Infuse Studio's co-founder Jacob Stutton, developers won't have trouble supporting the system as they already need to take the Xbox Series S into consideration. Things, however, may change after the next-generation consoles are out, as the Nintendo Switch 2 specs will be considerably lower, and developers may have to make some sacrifices to get their games running on the system.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has yet to be officially revealed. More information on it should finally be coming in the next few months.
