In Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, if you choose to go and visit the Pelupelu at the beginning of your adventure, you’ll travel to Urqopacha. This is a mountainous zone of opposite peoples, filled with touching stories.
However, you won’t be able to fly immediately. Instead, you’ll be stuck very much on the ground until you manage to unlock all of the Aether Currents in the area. There are 15 to collect – 10 can be found using your Aether Compass, four can be found through side quests, and one is gained through progressing the MSQ.
A word of reassurance – you physically cannot unlock all of the Aether Currents in Urqopacha before you’re able to unlock those in Kozama’uqa; it’s just how the MSQ is set out. Once you’ve unlocked flight in the Jungle setting of Kozama’uqa, the story of Dawntrail will bring you back to the southern half of Urqopacha’s map, allowing you to collect the remaining Aether Currents.
Like I said, you’ll need to find 10 Aether Currents through exploration and use of your Aether Compass. To make this easier, I’ll split these into two groups – northern and southern.
Northern:
Southern:
You’ll need to complete the level 93 MSQ quest ‘The Feat of Ice’ in order to unlock one of the Aether Currents in Urqopacha.
You’ll also need to complete this quest before you can unlock the two final side quests (as listed below) and unlock the remaining Aether Currents.
These Aether Currents can only be unlocked through side quests which become available after completing all MSQ quests within the area.
Completing all of the above quests and finding all of the field Aether Currents will unlock flight in the mountains of Urqopacha. Happy exploring!
