Nightingale was poised to become one of the more interesting and unique survival games released in 2024, but two weeks from launch, it's not doing great. User reviews on Steam are currently sitting at Mixed, and the game's player base has been slowly dwindling ever since launch, with a peak player count of a little over 10,000 compared to the game's all-time peak of just over 47,000 it racked up at launch a couple of weeks ago.
Thankfully, developer Infelxion Games is well aware of the game's tepid debut, and plans to do its best to turn things around. In a statement released on the official Nightingale website (thanks PCGamesN), Inflexion Games CEO Aaryn Flynn has explained that while the developers are happy with some of the things in Nightingale's early access release, they're "not satisfied" with others.
Specifically, Flynn talks about the issues currently facing Nightingale and its players at the moment, including network issues that appear to be a common complaint featured in negative Steam reviews. Flynn also says that Nightingale currently has "confusing or missing features" in regard to core mechanics like crafting, and that the game's combat needs updates.
To let players know that their feedback has been taken into account, Flynn has also given fans a list of changes coming to Nightingale that we can expect in the near future. In the short-term, Inflexion Games plans on reducing connection issues currently plaguing players, as well as adding gameplay balances, an option to skip the tutorial, and auto storage stack.
In the "medium term", Nightingale players can expect a variety of heavily-requested features, such as the ability to craft from storage, an offline mode, more projectile weapons, improved enemy AI, and a bunch more. We don't know when these features will be added, as a date wasn't provided, but the phrase "medium term" sounds like we won't be waiting too long.
Whether these changes will be enough to save Nightingale from falling into obscurity
